The Regional Cancer Center features two accredited Breast Centers, one at JFK Medical Center in Edison and the other at Muhlenberg Regional Medical Center in Plainfield. The Centers offer complete, professional and caring breast evaluation services for women who need sensitive, up-to-date answers regarding breast disease.

The Centers offer the most advanced evaluation and treatment programs available, including:
  • mammography
  • full field digital mammography (JFK campus only)
  • ultrasound
  • stereotactic breast biopsy
  • bone mineral testing, using the dexa method
  • Miraluma studies (Muhlenberg campus only)
The Regional Cancer Center is also proud to offer advanced technology for breast screening mammography with the R2 ImageChecker. As a computer aided detection system for routine screening mammograms, the R2 ImageChecker is a leading-edge tool designed to assist radiologists in the early detection of breast cancer. The equipment, popularly known as the "spell-checker" of mammography, identifies and marks areas that may warrant closer inspection by the radiologist. JFK Medical Center was the first facility in the state of New Jersey to provide this state-of-the-art technology.

We also provide breast health education in a caring, personalized atmosphere. All of our radiologists are board certified and accredited by the American College of Radiology (ACR) in mammography interpretation. Our staff of female technologists is registered by the ACR with advanced certification in mammography. In addition, both of our facilites meet the stringent requirements of the Mammography Quality Standards Act, which governs all aspects of the practice of mammography. The Centers also provide multi-lingual breast education services to the community and sponsor health fairs and seminars.

The Regional Cancer Center hosts a weekly multi-disciplinary breast conference, during which all new breast cancer cases are reviewed. This review process, performed by a team of experts, including radiation oncologists, medical oncologists, radiologists, pathologists, plastic surgeons and social workers, offers patients a comprehensive evaluation of treatment options for their specific stage of disease.
